BIOGRAPHY

Cathie Felstead was born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire in 1954. She attended the Chelsea School of Art, where she obtained a first degree in graphic design. She then studied for a masters degree in illustration at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1980.

She started her career producing designs for book covers, including books by William Golding, Iris Murdoch, Isabel Allende, Nadine Gordimer, and Alice Walker.
She has produced imagery for advertising campaigns, packaging, T-shirts, opera and ballet, T.V., magazines, greeting cards, and books. Her clients have included British Airways, Channel 4, Ballet Rambert, Fiat, Oxfam, Lynx (the anti fur trade organisation), Walker Books, Barclays, Glastonbury festivals, and The Body Shop.

Cathie is currently working on two children’s books for Greenwillow Pulishing in the U.S.A. as well as producing work for an exhibition of her paintings.
Her work has been exhibited at The Curwen Gallery, London, and several exhibitions in Britain and abroad.

Cathie has received awards for her work, including The Berger Prize, and the RCA travelling scholarship. She won a bronze award for the B&H; “Gold” competition, and was runner up in the Mother Goose award for illustrating A Caribbean Dozen. She has received 3 gold Oppenheimer awards for children’s book illustration in U.S.A.
