The Gruffalo and Friends
an exhibition of artwork by the internationally acclaimed children’s book illustrator,
Axel Scheffler

Featuring over 60 illustrations from such favourites as The GruffaloStickmanTiddlerTabby McTat and Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book, amongst others, this is the first time so much of Axel’s work will be on public display and available for purchase.

Axel Scheffler is a star illustrator in the world of children’s books. Born in Hamburg, Axel moved to study Illustration at Bath Academy of Art in the 1980s, where he spent much of his time drawing sheep and peacocks in the grounds of Corsham Court. He then moved to London where he began illustrating for a variety of English and German advertising companies, magazines and newspapers, before moving into book illustrations. His first book, You’re a Hero, Daley B was published by Walker Books in 1992. From there he began his picture book odyssey with Julia Donaldson and The Gruffalo was published in 1999 by Macmillan Children’s Books. In 2006, he designed Gordon Brown’s Christmas cards.

BIOGRAPHY

Original picture book artwork by Cathie Felstead is available for purchase from Images of Delight.

Cathie Felstead was born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire in 1954. She attended the Chelsea School of Art, where she obtained a first degree in graphic design. She then studied for a masters degree in illustration at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1980.

She started her career producing designs for book covers, including books by William Golding, Iris Murdoch, Isabel Allende, Nadine Gordimer, and Alice Walker.
She has produced imagery for advertising campaigns, packaging, T-shirts, opera and ballet, T.V., magazines, greeting cards, and books. Her clients have included British Airways, Channel 4, Ballet Rambert, Fiat, Oxfam, Lynx (the anti fur trade organisation), Walker Books, Barclays, Glastonbury festivals, and The Body Shop.

Cathie is currently working on two children’s books for Greenwillow Pulishing in the U.S.A. as well as producing work for an exhibition of her paintings.
Her work has been exhibited at The Curwen Gallery, London, and several exhibitions in Britain and abroad.

Cathie has received awards for her work, including The Berger Prize, and the RCA travelling scholarship. She won a bronze award for the B&H; “Gold” competition, and was runner up in the Mother Goose award for illustrating A Caribbean Dozen. She has received 3 gold Oppenheimer awards for children’s book illustration in U.S.A.…

Images of Delight is a specialist dealer in original contemporary children’s book illustrations. At any one time we will have access to over 500 pieces of artwork from about 40 of the U.K’s top children’s book illustrators, the majority of which are award winners and household names. If you can’t find what you are looking for, I can contact the illustrator and try and find it for you!

A warm welcome to Catherine Anholt on joining Images of Delight. Best known for the bestselling Chimp and Zee and her books for babies, she has been writing and illustrating books for over 20 years and has won numerous awards. Her work is featured in the current newsletter, look out for it!
